Questions
Why do you like the Fallas so much? What is your highlight about it?
“Fallas is probably the most well-known celebration in the Valencian Community. I like to eat churros with chocolate, to see fireworks and some of the characterisations that can be found in the different Fallas. The rest is not very nice in my opinion, too many people on the streets, too much noise, people in adverse conditions. Probably the highlight is the Cremá day when they burn every Fallas or the daily mascletas.” - Marc López Zambrana
What do you think about building up the Fallas figures and then burning them at the last day? Isn't it money spent and then burned?
“That's a controversial issue. Normally not economical but environmental. I think they are changing the materials to pollute less. The contamination due to Fallas is insignificant. And talking about the money, our community is not rich for its agricultural, industrial or technological sector. We depend so much on tourism and the service sector. Fallas is very famous and the community earns a lot of money. So, it's not money lost, burning the Fallas on the last day. It is a great source of income because of all the events that take place around it." - Marc López Zambrana
What can you tell about the history and tradition of the Fallas? Why is it so important in the region of Valencia?
“It's a tradition. I think it's been done for hundreds of years. It's important because it is our tradition. No one else in Spain do Fallas like we do. It's what makes us different from the rest. Making noise and burning things, makes curious. I have to say that I don't know many people who really like the celebration of Fallas, but what they like is what they do during the Fallas like the parties, being with friends and all that.” - Marc López Zambrana
